whatwedo
consultation
We offer an initial free consultation so that we can start to gather
some basic information about your current lifestyle. From this we can
then start to make some decisions about the type of programme and activities
from which you could benefit. It also gives you an opportunity to ask
questions, and if you are coming to the studio you can have a look round.
assessment
If after the consultation you decide you would like to book some time
with one of us, your first session, if appropriate, would be a physical
assessment including a movement screen, ( a series of movements to assess
any potential problem areas or past injury sites) a postural assessment,
and a fitness assessment.
We look at basic
things like height, weight and blood pressure as well as assessing body
composition, lung function, strength and cardiovascular fitness.
This information
can then be used to set goals for the short and long term so that we
know where we came from and where we are going! Goal setting is an important
factor in keeping your motivation alive and kicking so every ten weeks,
or sooner if you prefer, we retest so we can keep track of your achievements.
Any information given will, of course, be treated as strictly confidential.
the
programme
Programme design depends totally on the individual and we pride ourselves
on the fact that no two of our clients have ever had the same programme
– and we’ve done quite a few now! Quite obviously someone
who wants to run a marathon is not going to have the same programme
as someone who has just had cardiac surgery! The programme will take
into account personal likes and dislikes, (to a degree!) how much time
you have available, what equipment you may have access to and also previous
injuries or health problems highlighted at consultation/assessment stage.
All this, whilst still focusing on helping you to achieve your goals
in the most efficient and enjoyable way possible!
Programme types;
• Sports
specific
• Pre and post natal
• Special needs i.e. cardiac rehabilitation, lower back pain,
diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis, asthma, hypertension
• Seniors and juniors
• Stress relief
nutrition
As good eating
habits are such an important part of a healthy lifestyle and affect
how we feel on a day to day basis, we also like to conduct a dietary
assessment. This involves keeping a detailed food diary for 3-7 days
so that an analysis can be made. You will receive an in depth report
highlighting the good and the bad and possible suggestions for improvements
where appropriate.
pilates
Due to the
pressures of modern living , many of us have less than perfect postures
which can lead to unnecessary pressure on joints and their surrounding
musculature. These imbalances have the potential to cause real problems
in later life. Pilates is a technique which seeks to rebalance the body,
encouraging correct postural alignment whilst lengthening and strengthening
the muscles. It is particularly good at strengthening the ‘inner
core’ or the abdominal and back region and this makes it a useful
tool in both pre and post natal exercise programmes.
We can teach Pilates
on a one to one basis in your home or you can come to the studio where
we have small classes of 5 or 6 people. It is a friendly atmosphere
and the small classes mean that we can really keep a good eye on what’s
going on! Sessions, which are one hour, can be really quite athletic
or geared towards relaxation depending on your goals. Contact us for
more details on session times.
